The Story

In a world shrouded by the haze of half-truths and fragmented memories, the sacred text has been lost to time, its light obscured by centuries of misrepresentation and neglect. Yet, hope remains— a whisper carried on the wind of forgotten truths.

Each of you has stumbled upon a fragment, inked with words that pulse with divine purpose: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you (Matthew 28:19-20, ESV). These words, ancient yet alive, stir something deep within your soul, compelling you to uncover the whole of what was once the foundation of life and faith.

The fragments call you forward, urging you to rediscover the fullness of the Word, to restore its wisdom to the world, and to reignite the hope it once gave. The journey begins here—where your fragment of truth is but the first step toward uncovering a revelation that could save the world.

As budding theologians, you stand at the threshold of an extraordinary journey. Each fragment you hold is more than ink and parchment—it is a glimpse into a forgotten moment of divine history. Every card you draw reveals a piece of recorded scripture, each line whispering of truth, wisdom, and the Kingdom’s unfolding story. Like archaeologists of faith, you sift through the sands of time to uncover the timeless words that once transformed nations and hearts. These fragments are not merely texts; they are living echoes of a God who calls His people to seek Him, to embrace His teachings, and to restore His Kingdom. Your quest is not only to understand what was written but to rekindle the light of these truths in a world desperate for their return. With every discovery, the vision becomes clearer: the Kingdom of God is near, and its restoration depends on those who will take up the call to carry its message forward.

Faith and the Power of Prayer:

Faith is the cornerstone of your journey, the fuel that empowers your mission to rediscover and restore the sacred text. In every turn, you are called to demonstrate your faithfulness by discarding a card from your hand and placing it face-down in your Faithfulness Pool. Each of these cards represents your unwavering commitment to the mission, becoming a wellspring of spiritual energy. These faith cards can be exhausted once per turn, providing the necessary resources to play other cards from your hand into the Upper Room of Prayer—a sacred space where characters are empowered and prepared to be sent out into the Mission Field. There, they will work tirelessly to accumulate Treasure in Heaven, the ultimate measure of victory in the game.

Through this dynamic, faith becomes a living resource, requiring sacrifice, strategy, and devotion as you balance the treasures of your hand with the ever-growing reservoir of faith needed to advance your divine calling. Every prayer, every action, and every decision brings you closer to the ultimate goal: the fulfilment of your mission and the restoration of the Kingdom.

Characters in the Mission Field

From the Upper Room of Prayer, your chosen characters are sent forth into the Mission Field, embodying the Great Commission in action. These faithful servants have one sacred purpose: to share the gospel, proclaiming the good news to all they encounter, and to store up Treasure in Heaven as they fulfil their divine mission. Each character in the field represents a unique opportunity to spread the Word, planting seeds of faith and cultivating the Kingdom. Their actions ripple through the game, creating opportunities for divine breakthroughs, empowering others to the cause, and gathering treasures not of this world but of eternal significance.

The ultimate aim of each player is to be the first to accumulate 20 Treasure in Heaven, a milestone representing not only their success in the mission but the fruit of their faithfulness and dedication. Every Treasure earned brings you closer to this victory, reminding you of the scripture: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth…but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven” (Matthew 6:19-20). The Mission Field is both a battleground and a harvest field, where strategy and faith intertwine to ensure that the gospel’s reach extends to the ends of the earth and that the ultimate reward is within grasp.

The Challenge of Unity and Conflict:

Though united in the ultimate goal of spreading the gospel and transforming lives, players must navigate the inevitable tensions of human interpretation and differing ideals. These divisions, reflecting the challenges among church denominations. Leading to theological debates, disagreements over sanctification, and competing visions of how to live out the teachings of scripture. As these conflicts spill into the Mission Field, characters may challenge one another directly, drawing on their Strength to confront opposing views and relying on their Resilience to endure the tension. When Resilience is reduced to zero, characters are removed from the Mission Field and placed into the Valley of Reconciliation—a place where their work on earth is complete but where they await the ultimate reconciliation to Christ at the end of the game.

This mechanic reflects both the refining nature of conflict and the hope of final restoration. “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17), but even the sharpest blade can grow weary in the heat of battle. Characters in the Valley of Reconciliation serve as a sobering reminder of the cost of human conflict and the limitations of earthly efforts. Yet, their removal from the Mission Field is not the end, for the promise of the gospel is that all things will be reconciled to Christ. At the game’s conclusion, the Valley of Reconciliation becomes a symbol of hope fulfilled, where every effort and every loss are gathered into the eternal Kingdom, fully restored in the presence of the Saviour.

Character Special Abilities:

Each character in the game brings unique abilities, rooted in scriptural truths and inspired by pivotal moments in the history of faith. These abilities reflect the diversity of gifts and callings within the body of Christ, as described in scripture: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:4-5). Some characters possess abilities that require exhausting once per turn, representing sustained acts of ministry or the endurance needed to carry out long-term missions. Others have instant effects, requiring no cost, symbolizing divine intervention or moments of extraordinary faith. Finally, certain abilities activate only once as the character enters play, reflecting decisive historical actions or scriptural moments that shaped the course of the Kingdom.

These abilities are not merely mechanical but thematic, connecting each character’s role to the greater narrative of scripture and the church’s mission. Whether a character represents the boldness of Paul, the faithfulness of Ruth, or the wisdom of Solomon, their abilities draw players deeper into the story, challenging them to strategically deploy these gifts to maximize their impact in the Mission Field. With every decision, players must weigh the timing and cost of these abilities, ensuring their success and effectiveness.

Prayer Cards:

Prayer is a powerful tool, bridging the gap between earthly efforts and divine intervention. In the game, Prayer Cardsrepresent single-use actions that provide transformative effects when resolved. To play a Prayer Card, players can either exhaust the required amount of faith from their Faithfulness Pool or exhaust an available character in the Mission Field who has not already taken an action that turn. Only characters actively engaged in the Mission Field are able to pray, symbolizing the spiritual work accomplished by those immersed in the gospel mission.

Each Prayer Card carries a significant, one-time impact, reflecting the power of prayer to shift circumstances, inspire breakthroughs, or overcome obstacles. Whether invoking divine wisdom, calling for unity, or interceding on behalf of others, the resolution of these cards captures the spirit of “The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16). Strategically deciding when to use faith resources or exhaust a character to activate a Prayer Card adds depth and nuance to the gameplay, emphasizing the importance of prayerful action in advancing the mission.

Event Cards:

Event Cards are powerful, one-time actions that can dramatically alter the course of the game, reshaping the Mission Field and influencing the strategies of all players. Unlike other cards, Event Cards can be played at any time, even during another player’s turn, introducing a dynamic element of surprise and strategy. To play an Event Card, players must have the required faith in their Faithfulness Pool and exhaust it immediately upon activation. These cards are rare but potent, reflecting pivotal moments when God’s providence or unexpected events shift the landscape of history.

Whether representing moments of divine intervention, significant turning points in church history, or unforeseen trials, Event Cards bring an unpredictable edge to the game. A well-timed Event Card might disrupt an opponent’s strategy, provide a critical boost to a player’s mission, or introduce a new challenge that reshapes everyone’s plans. These cards embody the reality that the Kingdom’s work often unfolds in ways no one expects, reminding players that while they strategize and labor, the ultimate outcome lies in the hands of God. Through these instantaneous actions, Event Cards keep the game dynamic, challenging players to adapt and remain faithful amidst changing circumstances.

Gift Cards:

Gift Cards represent the spiritual gifts bestowed upon the Church, enriching the player’s ministry and enhancing their ability to fulfill the mission. These cards remain in play once activated, providing ongoing benefits and serving as a reflection of the scripture: “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Corinthians 12:7). Each Gift Card can be exhausted once per turn to perform its unique action, creating a continual source of strength and opportunity for the player’s strategy.

Gift Cards symbolize the diverse ways the Spirit empowers the Church, from wisdom and discernment to healing and encouragement. Strategically managing these gifts allows players to build a strong foundation for their mission, complementing the efforts of their characters in the Mission Field. As enduring resources, they are not only powerful tools but also reminders of God’s provision and faithfulness to those who serve Him. Balancing the activation of these gifts with other actions requires players to think carefully about how to steward the blessings entrusted to them, ensuring that their church thrives in its pursuit of the gospel and the restoration of scripture. Through these gifts, players are reminded that their efforts are supported by the Spirit, working continuously to further the Kingdom.

The New Kingdom and the Return of Christ

The race to accumulate 20 Treasure in Heaven is not merely a victory condition—it signifies the ushering in of the New Kingdom, the fulfilment of God’s divine plan, and the return of Christ as foretold in Revelation: “Behold, I am making all things new (Revelation 21:5). When a player reaches this milestone, they proclaim the ultimate triumph of the gospel, ushering in the new creation where Christ reconciles all things to Himself (Colossians 1:20). This moment marks the culmination of the game, where every effort, conflict, and sacrifice finds its purpose in the eternal Kingdom.

Yet, the journey toward the New Kingdom is marked by a tension familiar to the Church throughout history. While the return of Christ is the hope of all believers, scripture also reflects God’s desire that none should perish: “The Lord is not slow to fulfil His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). In this spirit, players may challenge one another—not to obstruct the return of Christ but to create more opportunities for others to be saved and to store up additional treasures in heaven. This mirrors the paradoxical urgency of the Church’s mission: to both hasten the day of the Lord (2 Peter 3:12) and delay its fulfilment out of love for the lost.

Strategically, this dynamic adds a layer of depth to the game. Players must weigh their actions carefully: will they strive to bring the New Kingdom swiftly, or will they dedicate themselves to the labor of saving more souls, even at the cost of delaying their own victory? Each challenge, prayer, and decision reflects the heart of the mission and the eternal significance of the Kingdom’s work. In the end, the return of Christ reconciles all things, including those in the Valley of Reconciliation, into His glory, reminding us that the Kingdom is not won by human effort alone but by His sovereign grace.
